DEGEA TRANSFER SAGA: WINNERS AND LOOSERS
It seemed like a match made in heaven; local hero David degea was set to return to madrid at a price cheaper than anyone would have imagined after holding on for so long.. All was set apparently except the necessary papers for the transfer!
Claims and counter claims were thrown when it was announced that davids papers did not get to the RFEF on time for him to be registered. All plans seemed shattered! a new transfer window seemed like eternity but 2 months in, we look at the biggest winners and loosers from the saga.
WINNERS
Topping this list obviously is the party blamed for the delayal..MANCHESTER UNITED. Being on the brink of loosing your player of the year for two consecutive seasons can be bad! loosing him because he does not want to play for you is worse! but loosing him on a cheap is the worst!!! Degea had refused to extend his contract and with one year left, their best chance was sell or loose him on a free. The player had refused to play for them and wasnt even on the bench anymore but they held on, hoping to increase the transfer fee but in the end, they managed to keep him and ensure he signs an extension so he will only leave at the right price. For the first time, DDG transfer is in man utds hands.
KEYLOR NAVAS might have found himself at an embarrasing position then but he is a hero now! cleansheet after clean sheet and save after save has seen him loved by the madrid faithfull. From crying the airport to being sung by the bernabeu faithfull, his season is turning right and he keeps sending madrid owners further away from another bid. And he deserves it, 2 penalty saves and many match winning performances mean there is hope for the future.
LOOSERS
The biggest looser has to be DAVID DEGEA. Seen as a club hero, his status fell as he refused to extend his contract and play for the devils. 3 clean sheets from new goalie romero meant he would not be missed and despite returning to the first team since, his dream move has been thwarted, he is still not forgiven by many members of the manutd fans and will not be able to force a move like he did at the window.
REAL MADRID may be enjoying Keylor but he still isnt their dream man. he isnt a local hero neither is he a long term replacement for the exiting Casillas. They had wanted someone long term to fill for Casillas at both club and country and will have to make do with Casilla or force a big money move for DDG. Either way, they will feel they missed a great chance when it came by.
